Imagine Avondale provides students with a STEM course as part of each student’s specials schedule. STEM is rooted on the idea of educating 21st Century students in four specific disciplines science, technology, engineering and mathematics- in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach the four disciplines as singular subjects, STEM integrates them into an interconnected learning paradigm based on real-world applications. Students learn and apply the scientific method and also build perseverance by participating in various hands on projects, testing and generating hypotheses and trouble shooting. Projects include experimenting with and building paper air planes, building catapults to measure distance and trajectory, and building aluminum foil boats to measure mass. Students also receive instruction in typing, computer application and software skills utilizing Chrome Book Laptops.
